We were thrilled to reopen the west runway just as traffic began ramping up here at Huntsville International for the holiday season, said Rick Tucker, Port of Huntsville CEO. The new 228ft air traffic control tower was inaugurated on 3 June 2008 by the Federal Aviation Administration and became operational on 4 May 2008. The new 12,600ft-long runway will allow Boeing 747s to be turned around in two hours and have enough fuel to make direct Asia-Alabama flights for cargo and passengers.
